Is my 560 SL Mecedes really a SL if it has a back seat with seats and belts?

I heard many times “The car you’re describing sounds like a 560 SLC.” The back of the car reads clearly SL, but maybe the C came off? The guy I bought it from doesn’t know anything about Mercedes. Did the SL have a special edition? Is it a C? Or is it a customization?
